Parent Directory: 'Read-only (Only Applies To Files In Folder)' Is Grayed Out Mar 29, 2009 I write click on a folder and see that the 'Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)' attribute is checked and grayed out. I uncheck it, click Apply, and leave the 'Apple changes to this folder, subfolders and files' radio button clicked. I hit OK and a few minutes later all the permissions are supposedly updated.
I then try to copy a file into a subfolder and. It's as though the folder, itself, is Read-only and that the 'Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)' checkbox does indeed 'only apply to files in folders' and not to folders, themselves. I go to a folder that has no subfolders in it and see that the 'Read- only (Only applies to files in folder)' checkbox for that is grayed out and checked, as well. I uncheck it and right click and. System crashed and can't find my disks. Just want to re-install and need an iso file to download and burn.
Aug 19, 2009 I'm used to doing this in Windows XP where the folder location is 'C:documents and settingsusernamelocal setting emp'.On my Dell laptop which has Vista Home SP2, It *appears* that the location may be 'C:usersusernamelocal settings??' But 'local settings' is a link rather than a subdirectory, and when I try to expand it I get 'C:usersusernamelocal settings is not accesible. Access is denied'.I'm logged in as administrator, and I have set folder options->view to 'show hidden files and folders' and to not 'hide protected operating system files'.I get the same error when I try to expand 'C:usersusernamestart menu'. What do I need to do to be able to navigate these links and view and edit the folder contents? Aug 14, 2008 Is there any way to disable Internet Explorer from showing your file directory you browsed in Windows Explorer?
I don't want to see my files directory in IE7 address bar. I use Vista U x64. Mar 27, 2008 When I've downloaded files from the net, I choose a directory to save the file but then get error message saying that I don't have permission to save files in that location and to ask the Administrator for permission.
I am the Administrator and I have no other users. All the files downloaded go to the Local temp file since I don't have permission. May 27, 2009 Anyway, In Vista's start menu, I redirected the 'Pictures' folder to my user folder 'Matthew'. Clicked okay and blah blah blah didn't think twice about it, until I tried to redirect it again. Now I get the error message 'cannot redirect descendant to parent'. I saw a tutorial for this but my issue has a hidden detail. When I click onto my Local Disk, drive C in 'My Computer', go to 'Users' then 'Matthew' all is fine.
